Background:	PRX5 is a type II peroxiredoxin. It is a thiol-specific peroxidase that catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides to water and alcohols. Despite a predicted mitochondrial targeting sequence, the protein is more closely related to chloroplastic type II PRX from Arabidopsis and has been localized to the chloroplast.
