Background:	DEG8 forms a hexamer with DEG5 in the thylakoid lumen. Involved in the cleavage of photodamaged D2 protein of photosystem II (PSII). Recombinant DEG8 is proteolytically active toward both a model substrate (beta-casein) and photodamaged D1 protein of photosystem II.
