Background:	CENH3, a centromere-specific histone H3 variant, is the epigenetic markerdefining the functional centromere location on each chromosome. It replacescanonical H3 within centromeric nucleosomes. CENH3 provides the essentialfoundation for assembling the kinetochore, the large protein complex that formsduring cell division. The kinetochore attached to CENH3 nucleosomes servesas the direct attachment site for spindle microtubules, enabling accuratechromosome segregation to daughter cells.
