In chloroplasts, transcription of plastid genes is mediated by two types of RNA polymerase: plastid-encoded RNA polymerase (PEP) and nuclearencoded RNA polymerase (NEP). Transcription in plastids is also mediated by a number of nuclear-encoded factors in addition to PEP and NEP.
