Background:	OsSPH is a type-2 13-lipoxygenase (13-LOX). It is required for normal hull development by regulating fatty acid metabolism and lignin synthesis; loss of function causes a split-hull (sph) phenotype due to reduced lemma width and low lignin content, facilitating easy dehulling.
