Background: |
UPF3 is a regulator of nonsense transcripts that detects exported mRNAs with truncated open reading frames and initiates nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD). It recruits UPF2 at the cytoplasmic side of the nuclear envelope to form a surveillance complex. UPF3 is localized to the nucleus, nucleolus, and cytoplasm. |
