Prohibitins (PHBs) are highly conserved proteins belonging to the large SPFH (stomatin, prohibitin, flotillin and HflKC) superfamily. Both proteins are highly homologous and interdependent: disruption of one homolog results in the destabilization and rapid degradation of the other.
