Exploring carboxysome engineering with PhytoAB

Exploring carboxysome engineering with PhytoAB

Can engineering cyanobacterial carbon-fixing compartments improve photosynthesis?

Hu and colleagues overexpressed β-carboxysome components in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, altering carboxysome abundance, size, and protein composition. They observed improved photosynthetic performance and growth under favorable conditions, including elevated CO₂ and nutrient-enriched medium.

PhytoAB antibodies used in the study.

CcmK2 — PHY5336S: Anti-carboxysome shell protein antibody.

CcmM —PHY5331S: Anti-carboxysome assembly protein antibody, targeting the C-terminal region.

Both rabbit polyclonal antisera were used at 1:5,000 for immunoblotting to assess carboxysome protein abundance.
